Features - Rare Birds - Mike Trapp's 1973 Factory Racer

This is the before picture from John Jantsch as he prepares to restore this one-of-one 1973 Factory racer driven by two time World Champion Mike Trapp . Here's the scoop directly from John:

"I picked up Mike Trapp's sled a few Saturday's back, for he had asked me to restore it for him. It has been sitting in one of his truck garages since he had it shipped back from Valcourt in the spring of '73.

Over the years we found that someone stole the suspension, carbs and ignition off of it (and ran into the side of it with a dump truck). Not a pleasant surprise. Before I start the restoration I figured I would snap some photos of it.

You will notice a few neat things the factory was doing like: running a 4 plug ignition (two of the plug holes are now capped off), Magnesium crankcase, special motor mount, special seat, weight reduction all over - milled handlebar brace and spindles, beautiful hand built pipes by Yvon Gagne - i.e. one of the tuned brothers. Neat stuff!!

I asked Mike why the 4 digit race number on his sled and he said in the last race of the season he raced a non USSA event and hence he had a number on the sled that was given to him at that race. Mike gave me his busted hood and I have the hood off now, hanging on the wall in my shed next to my prized Easy Rider poster."
