Andy's New Playroom!
When I first visited Andy Avelis's house, he quickly took me on a tour of the house that ended in the basement. As I walked down the stairs, I was thinking his snowmobiles must be out in shed behind the house, because the house was too nice to have a bunch of old sleds in it. I'd say more like I expected the basement to have a full bar, hot tub, pool table and giant big screen TV in his basement, all surrounded by oak, marble, a humidor for his cigars and a full wine cellar that boasted of having nothing younger then 100 year old bottles in it.
Instead, I walked around the corner and found something much nicer. A veritable gaggle of amazing Arctic Cat race sleds from the sixties through the seventies and just touching into the 1980's. Each one painstakingly restored and maintained. I was awestruck. I thought it was the coolest basement on the planet. And the array of sleds was mind boggling.
The one thing Andy told me was that he didn't like how all the sleds were on racks. I t made them difficult to get down, and to see the sleds all around. So Andy came up with a solution.
Andy and his family built an entirely new facility. I won't say where, but I'll tell you they have more months of snow there then at the previous location! Andy's new 'playroom' is the Arctic Cat showroom I'm sure most Cat guys have dreamed about... PDC's, SnoPro's, EXT's, King Kats and enough parts to keep them all in running condition for many years. Check out the NOS parts still in the original boxes! They even managed to make a display of drive belts and leaf springs look cool. And to think the room i only 1/2 done! Polished aluminium shelves, a glass wall display & a wet bar are all to be completed soon.
Wow. I hope the Arctic Cat marketing department sees this. Can you say "Heritage"???? |
